Harmar AL215 Axis I Low-Profile Inside-Vehicle Hoist

The AL215 is an interior hoist for transporting a compatible scooter, manual wheelchair or power wheelchair inside a vehicle. It raises the device with a weather-resistant hand control, then rotates manually into the cargo area. This powered-lift/manual-rotation sequence can reduce the effort of lifting a mobility device, but the user or caregiver still has to position it, guide the rotation and secure it for travel. Unlike an exterior platform carrier, the AL215 stores the device inside the vehicle and Harmar says it preserves use of the backup camera.

Capacity and Docking Device

Harmar rates the AL215 for devices up to 250 lb. The device must also be compatible with a selected docking attachment: current choices include a T-bar for seat-off use, a spreader bar, an adjustable C-arm for seat-on use, and a docking device for an accordion-folding manual wheelchair. These are not interchangeable accessories; the correct option depends on the mobility device, its seat and frame, and how it will be loaded. Confirm the lift's attachment point and exact docking hardware with a Harmar dealer before ordering.

Vehicle Space and Rotation

Measure the cargo opening, floor height, available depth and width, and the path the device must follow as it rotates into the vehicle. The AL215 is designed for a variety of minivans, SUVs, vans and trucks, but compatibility is vehicle-specific. Seat removal, docking-bar placement, false-floor or flat-floor adapters and the location of other cargo can affect installation. The arm height is adjustable, and base adapters may be needed for some floor arrangements; verify them for the actual vehicle rather than assuming the base unit fits every cargo area.

Everyday Loading and Safety

Park on stable, level ground for loading, keep people clear of the device's movement path and use the hand control according to Harmar's instructions. The mobility device must be unoccupied while it is lifted and rotated. After loading, check that the device and lift are secured for travel. The manual rotation remains a physical task even though the lifting is powered, so consider the operator's strength, balance and ability to guide the device safely.

Before Ordering

Provide the dealer with the vehicle year, make and model, cargo measurements, mobility-device model and weight, and whether the seat stays on. Confirm the docking device, floor adapter, mounting location and operating clearance. The 250 lb lifting capacity does not confirm the correct dock or vehicle fit.
