Harmar AL055 Economy Inside Hoist Lift

The AL055 is an interior hoist for transporting a compatible manual wheelchair, travel or micro scooter, or powerchair inside a vehicle. Harmar rates it for devices up to 200 lb. The lift raises the device with powered lifting; the operator rotates the boom manually to guide it into the cargo area. The AL055 can be assembled or disassembled for storage. Unlike a platform carrier, it stores the mobility device inside the vehicle rather than behind the bumper.

Match the Docking Device to the Mobility Device

The lift's docking attachment depends on the device and whether its seat remains in place during loading. Options include a T-bar for seat-off use, a spreader bar, an adjustable C-arm for seat-on use, and a docking device for an accordion-folding manual wheelchair. These fittings are selected for different frames and loading methods. Confirm the exact attachment point and dock for the mobility-device model before ordering; staying below the 200 lb limit does not establish docking compatibility.

Vehicle and Cargo-Space Fit

Harmar lists compatibility with sedans, minivans, SUVs, trucks and vans, but the installation must be checked for the actual vehicle. Measure the cargo opening, floor height, available depth and width, and the sweep of the boom as it rotates inward. Seat removal, dock location, floor adapters and other cargo can affect clearance. Confirm the floor setup, receiver and mounting position with a Harmar dealer.

Loading and Storage

The powered mechanism lifts the unoccupied mobility device; manual rotation remains part of the loading routine. Consider who will guide the device into the vehicle and whether they can manage its balance and path throughout the rotation. Secure it for travel according to the selected dock and owner's manual. Disassembly can clear cargo space when the lift is not needed, but plan where its components will be stored and how they will be reassembled correctly.
