Harmar AL225 Axis II Double-Axis Inside-Vehicle Hoist
The AL225 Axis II is a hitch-mounted hoist that lifts and rotates a compatible mobility device into the vehicle's cargo area under power. Harmar rates it for manual wheelchairs, powerchairs and scooters up to 250 lb. The dual-axis movement is fully powered, unlike hoists that require the operator to rotate the boom manually. The lift installs at the hitch but carries the device inside the vehicle; Harmar says the design can preserve use of the backup camera.
Docking Devices and Vehicle Setup
The hitch class and docking device are selected for the vehicle and mobility device. Options include a T-bar for seat-off use, an adjustable C-arm for seat-on use, manual-wheelchair docking devices for different loading orientations, spreader bars and other model-specific docks. Confirm the correct attachment points and whether the seat stays on before ordering. The standard wire harness connects to the vehicle battery; a battery pack with charger is an optional configuration.
Measure the Loading Path
Measure the cargo opening, floor height, available depth and width, and the device's route as the powered arm raises and rotates it into the vehicle. Harmar lists minivans, SUVs, trucks and vans; actual fit depends on the vehicle, selected hitch adapter, base position, floor type and chosen dock. Adjustable base and arm height and a telescoping boom strap help configure the lift, but they do not replace a vehicle-specific compatibility check.
Operation, Capacity and Storage
Use the weather-resistant hand control and follow Harmar's procedure for docking, lifting, powered rotation and securing the unoccupied device for travel. The 250 lb device capacity is separate from the lift's listed 55 lb installed weight; include the lift, mobility device, passengers and cargo when checking vehicle and hitch ratings. Consider who will attach the selected dock and operate the hand control safely.
Before Ordering
Provide the dealer with the vehicle year, make and model, hitch class, cargo measurements, mobility-device model and weight, and seat-on/seat-off requirement. Confirm the docking device, base adapter, wiring or battery-pack option, installation position and clearance. Review the owner's and installation manuals for the exact configuration.
