The Model 117 is a powered hitch-mounted platform for carrying a compatible mobility device outside a vehicle. Its 22 x 37 inch usable platform and 150 lb device capacity make it a compact-format lift, while the 88 lb lift weight creates a second load that must be included in vehicle planning. The platform raises and folds into a stowaway position when empty. This arrangement can reduce the effort of manually lifting a device to vehicle height, but it still requires correct device placement, securement and a vehicle-and-hitch combination rated for the complete load.

Check Platform Fit Before Capacity

A device can weigh less than 150 lb and still be too long, wide or shaped incorrectly for the 22 x 37 inch usable platform. Measure the scooter or powerchair in the exact configuration that will travel, including protruding controls, footrests or other parts that affect its footprint. Confirm that the wheels or base sit within the platform and that the included retractable ratchets can secure the device as instructed. Capacity alone does not establish fit or securement compatibility.

Loading, Folding and Rear Access

Use the switch-box controls to operate the lift and follow the owner's manual for loading, raising and lowering. The manufacturer describes a stowaway position for the unloaded platform; do not assume it folds in the same way with a device aboard. Before installation, consider how the carrier will sit relative to the bumper, tailgate, exhaust, lights and license plate. A loaded platform can change access to the rear of the vehicle or obscure vehicle equipment. Check the full movement path and the lift's folded position against the vehicle you plan to use.

WheelChair Carrier lists up to 24 inches of possible ground clearance. That is not a guaranteed clearance for every vehicle: hitch height, suspension, cargo load and installation affect the platform's position. Check the actual clearance on the installed vehicle, especially over driveways and other transitions, rather than treating the maximum figure as a route guarantee.

Power and Vehicle Connection

The Model 117 includes a 21 ft wire harness, a 30 amp resettable circuit breaker and switch-box controls. Confirm the installation route and connection requirements against the supplied manual and vehicle, and make sure the harness can reach without interfering with moving parts or exposed heat. The lift is available for a 1 1/4 inch or 2 inch square hitch receiver; select the size that matches the receiver actually installed on the vehicle, not an adapter assumed to be present.

Account for the Entire Vehicle Load

Include the 88 lb lift, the mobility device and any carried equipment when checking the receiver, hitch, vehicle payload and tongue-weight limits. The manufacturer specifically warns not to exceed the hitch manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. A hitch opening that accepts the receiver does not prove that the vehicle can safely support the lift and loaded platform. Review the vehicle and hitch ratings together and arrange professional installation if the wiring, receiver or clearances are uncertain.

Before Ordering

Confirm the device footprint, loaded weight, ratchet securement, receiver size, wiring route and installed clearance. Compare those details with the Model 117 installation and owner's manuals and the vehicle manufacturer's limits. The lift is best evaluated as one part of a complete transport system, not as an independent 150 lb rating.
