The EV Rider Transport 4AF, also known as Transport AF4 or AF4W, combines a four-wheel layout with remote-controlled automatic folding. It should not be confused with the narrower S19AF+ or the manually folded Transport 4M. Its defining benefit is reducing the physical work of opening and closing the chassis while retaining a compact travel format. That convenience helps with storage transitions, but does not remove the need to lift the scooter or assess the rider's fit.
Powered Folding With a Meaningful Lift
The handheld remote operates folding and unfolding, and rear buttons provide an alternative control method. The seat back must be positioned for folding and the rider must leave the scooter before the mechanism moves. Keep clothing, fingers, and surrounding items clear, watch the entire process, and verify that the scooter is completely opened before boarding. Automatic folding is a supervised storage function, not an invitation to leave the mechanism operating unattended.
The manufacturer manual specifies 51.8 lbs with the battery and approximately 48.6 lbs without it. Removing the roughly 3.2-lb pack reduces the load only modestly; it does not divide the chassis into lightweight sections. When evaluating car travel, consider who will raise that assembly over the bumper, where their hands can grip it, and whether other luggage makes the loading angle awkward. A helper or compatible loading aid may still be the practical solution.
The Wider Four-Wheel Footprint
The 4AF has an approximately 18.3-inch-wide frame, wider than the S19AF+. That distinction matters when checking door approaches, the space beside a dining chair, and folded storage. Four wheels provide a different support footprint, but they cannot guarantee stability on every slope or during abrupt steering. The useful benefit depends on keeping the route suitable and the speed low enough to steer predictably.
The folding mobility seat is a compact travel seat rather than a high-back captain's chair. Before choosing this layout for long periods of sitting, check the cushion, back support, foot position, and distance to the tiller. Stay within the load limit stated on the scooter's supplied instructions, including carried items. A loading limit is not a seating recommendation or evidence that every person below it will have sufficient legroom.
Lever Driving and Electromagnetic Braking
The tiller controls provide forward and reverse movement with an adjustable speed setting. Start slowly while becoming familiar with how far to move the lever and how the scooter responds when it returns to neutral. Electromagnetic braking then stops the scooter and holds it when the drive system is engaged. Slopes can lengthen stopping distance, so leave space and avoid sudden changes in direction.
Freewheel mode allows manual pushing but disengages the normal drive and brake arrangement. Use it only for controlled repositioning on level ground and restore drive mode before boarding. Front LED lighting is part of the model's equipment, useful for illuminating the nearby route, not proof that the scooter is appropriate for road traffic. Folding controls and driving controls perform different jobs; neither is an obstacle-detection system.
Lithium Power and Range Reserve
The 4AF uses a removable 10.05Ah lithium battery pack. Its practical value is reducing battery handling compared with bulky SLA arrangements and allowing the pack to be removed when required. Use the specified charger for that pack, keep the charging area dry and ventilated, and follow the instructions supplied with the scooter. Similar-looking connectors do not make chargers for different battery chemistries interchangeable.
Plan journeys around a charged battery and a reserve rather than around an ideal maximum-distance figure. Rider weight, carried items, gradients, low temperatures, aging cells, and repeated stops can reduce the available distance. For air or cruise travel, obtain approval from the carrier for the exact scooter and battery before departure. Removability and remote folding can simplify handling, but they do not provide blanket permission to travel without restrictions.
Medical Mobility With Defined Use Limits
The owner manual identifies the 4AF as medical mobility equipment for a person restricted to a seated position. It also specifies indoor use, a maximum safe slope of 3 degrees, and that the scooter is not a seat for a moving motor vehicle. Preserve those distinctions when planning how it will be used. A transportable device can be taken to another indoor destination without becoming an outdoor recreational scooter.
The manual specifies no suspension, and the manufacturer lists solid tires with 1.4 inches of ground clearance. Smooth flooring is a better match than broken surfaces, loose gravel, or curb edges. A front basket is an optional accessory; extra equipment must remain compatible with the folding mechanism. The 4AF suits buyers who specifically need automatic folding and can accommodate its loading weight, compact seating, and restricted operating environment.
