Arjo Sara Stedy Manual Sit-to-Stand Aid
The Sara Stedy is a non-powered mobile aid for assisted sit-to-stand transfers. Arjo describes it for situations where the person can participate in rising, hold the crossbar and bear enough weight to complete the transfer with caregiver assistance. It is not a full-body passive lift for someone who cannot stand or participate. Suitability must be determined through an individual mobility and transfer assessment before the aid is introduced into a care routine.
Confirm the Person Fits the Intended Use
Arjo lists a 400 lb safe working load and a standard-model user-height range of 4 ft 11 in to 6 ft 6 in. Those figures are equipment limits, not a clinical determination that the transfer is appropriate. The caregiver and care team must consider the person's ability to rise, grip, follow instructions, maintain posture and tolerate the transfer. A person within the height and weight ranges may still require a different transfer method or a full-body lift.
Set Up Around the Chair and Transfer Surface
The caregiver positions the chassis at the chair, wheelchair or commode and opens its legs with foot pedals to create an approach. The person uses the crossbar and knee support as instructed; the split seat pivots into place to provide seated support during the transfer. The aid relies on caregiver positioning and the person's participation rather than powered lifting. Review the complete setup and sequence in Arjo's Instructions for Use, including when castor brakes should be applied. Do not improvise the sequence from the product description alone.
Check Room Clearance and Handling
The standard Sara Stedy weighs about 64.8 lb. Arjo lists an external width of 19.3 inches with the legs closed and 34.7 inches fully open, with an approximate 41-inch turning radius. Measure the approach route, doorways and space around the chair or toilet in both the closed and open-leg positions. Check the turning and caregiver working space as well as whether the aid can be stored and moved between rooms. The smaller Sara Stedy Compact is a distinct model with different dimensions and user-height range; do not use its fit measurements for the standard unit.
Match the Sling and Care Plan
Arjo offers washable, disposable and wipeable sling options for use with the Sara Stedy. Sling selection, size, attachment and transfer method must match the individual and the care plan. Confirm the compatible sling and whether it is included in the selected order; do not assume that a sling or accessory is part of the base aid. The safe working load of the transfer setup is limited by the lowest rated component being used.
Before Use
Read the current Instructions for Use and obtain a patient-specific transfer assessment. Confirm the user's participation ability, height and weight, compatible sling, room access, caregiver position and castor-brake procedure. Arjo describes use by a single caregiver, but staffing and supervision must follow the clinical assessment and facility policy. The device's rating and operating design do not replace training or a safe transfer plan.
