A heavy-duty scooter that prioritizes seating room

The three-wheel Maxima SC901 is built around a 500-pound capacity and a wider, depth-adjustable high-back seat. That combination makes it relevant for riders who find compact travel cushions restrictive, rather than simply for anyone who wants a larger motor. Its 49-inch turning radius also offers a maneuvering advantage over the four-wheel Maxima, which matters when a heavy-duty scooter must work indoors.

The base measures 47.5 inches long and 27 inches wide. That width needs to be evaluated before delivery, including door approaches, furniture spacing and the position where the scooter will be charged. A high capacity is useful only when the rider can use the scooter along the intended route. The three-wheel layout still requires careful low-speed cornering and should not be treated as permission to turn across an incline.

Transport needs a lift or suitable ramp system

The Maxima does not disassemble into travel-sized frame sections. Weight without batteries is 183.5 pounds, and its two specified batteries weigh 36.5 pounds each. Even removing the seat and batteries leaves a substantial base rather than a light front section to place in a trunk. This is a fundamental ownership difference from a Go Go or Revo travel scooter.

Plan transport around a compatible vehicle lift or rated loading system, with enough capacity for the actual selected configuration and any accessories. The seat and batteries may be removable for service or handling, but that does not create a manageable component-loading travel machine. Also consider storage-floor space and an accessible charging outlet. If regular car outings depend on one person's manual lifting, the Maxima's capacity and seating benefits may come with an unsuitable transport burden.

Depth adjustment makes the broad seat more useful

The standard high-back black-vinyl seat is 22 inches wide, with depth adjustable from 18 to 20 inches. It includes limited recline, a swivel and an adjustable headrest. Depth adjustment is particularly useful for balancing thigh support against comfortable knee position: a deep seat can be unhelpful if the rider must slide forward to reach the controls.

Standard seat-to-deck height ranges from 17.13 to 19.13 inches. An optional power-elevating seat adds height for access tasks, but it is not included merely because the model is named Maxima. The infinite-position tiller lever and wraparound delta handles help align steering reach with the selected seating position. Assess transfers and driving posture with those adjustments working together, not just by comparing the cushion width with a smaller scooter.

Battery distance and familiar braking behavior

Pride specifies two 58Ah NF-22 gel batteries, with an off-board 5-amp charger and published range up to 19.8 miles. Top speed is up to 5.8 mph. Those capabilities can support substantial paved outings, but rider load, inclines, starts and stops and battery condition affect distance. Keep a return reserve rather than planning to use the entire advertised range.

The charger connection on the tiller makes routine access easier. The console also includes a battery indication, horn, light control, ignition, speed control and turn-signal button. Releasing the throttle returns it to the stop position and engages the brakes. The freewheel lever disengages the braking system for pushing, so it should be returned to drive mode before the rider sits down or the scooter is used.

Lighting and larger tires without suspension

A front basket, full LED lighting with turn signals and rear taillights, and a USB device-charging port provide useful everyday equipment. The lights make signaling and visibility more practical, but do not create road priority or compensate for an unsuitable route. Extra holders and the elevating-seat option are separate choices that should be matched to the user's actual requirements.

The solid front and rear tires are approximately 10.5 and 10.75 inches, with 2.5 inches of motor clearance. There is no suspension, so repeated broken paving can still produce a firm ride despite the large seat. Maintained paths and accessible indoor spaces are a better match than deep gravel, rough grass or abrupt curb edges. The three-wheel Maxima is most compelling when broad adjustable seating and high capacity outweigh the need for lightweight vehicle transport, with its turning behavior and nonsuspended chassis understood before purchase.
