Pride PX4 SC134 4-Wheel Mobility Scooter
This FDA Class II medical device is designed to aid individuals with mobility impairments. Specifications may change, and speed and range vary with rider load, terrain and battery condition. HCPCS references do not guarantee reimbursement.
A spacious outdoor scooter with substantial demands
The Pride PX4 SC134 brings a 500-pound capacity, a large four-wheel platform and full suspension to outdoor mobility. It makes sense for riders who value room, supportive seating options and longer paved outings more than compact indoor maneuvering. Its large footprint and weight are not side issues; they determine whether the scooter can be stored, charged and transported conveniently.
The chassis measures 55.9 inches long and 27.83 inches wide, with an 82.28-inch turning radius. That turning area is considerably larger than a compact travel scooter's. Check garage approaches, elevator entrances, pathways and places where you must reverse direction. A scooter that is comfortable on an open path may still be poorly suited to a confined indoor route.
Separate the base weight from the complete load
Pride lists 201.2 pounds without the seat or batteries, 298.8 pounds with standard batteries but no seat, and 351.4 pounds with the standard seat and batteries. These figures describe different configurations, not alternative weights for the same complete scooter. The standard seat weighs 52.6 pounds, and each 75Ah battery weighs 48.8 pounds.
Removing those components can help with service or specialized handling, but the remaining base is still far beyond a small trunk-loading section. Plan transport around a compatible rated lift or loading system, with allowance for the selected seating and accessories. Also check the cargo opening and usable platform dimensions, not just the lift's nominal weight limit. If everyday outings depend on repeated manual lifting, the PX4's substantial platform may be the wrong compromise despite its comfort benefits.
Seating flexibility needs a configuration decision
The manufacturer's seating choices include depth-adjustable memory-foam arrangements with sliders and several cushion widths. A six-inch slider helps position the rider relative to the controls, while larger seating options should be selected deliberately rather than assumed from the 500-pound capacity. Cushion depth, thigh support and foot position matter alongside overall width, especially during an extended outdoor trip.
The standard seat-to-deck range is approximately 16.54 to 18.39 inches. Set the seat and delta steering position together so the hands remain comfortable without pulling the back away from its support. An LCD console provides operating information, and NFC key-fob ignition changes the starting routine from a conventional key switch. Keep the ignition credential accessible and establish a consistent storage place for it, particularly when the scooter is transported.
Range and braking for deliberate outdoor use
The standard battery system uses two 12-volt, 75Ah sealed lead-acid deep-cycle batteries, with an 8-amp off-board charger. Published range is up to 23.4 miles. That figure is a conditional planning reference: gradients, rider load, soft surfaces, tire pressure and battery condition change usable distance. Leave reserve for the return journey instead of treating the longest advertised range as a daily target.
Regenerative and electromechanical brakes are supplemented by a hand brake. Learn its reach and response, along with low-speed forward and reverse, before using the scooter on a demanding route. The water-resistant console and full LED lighting are useful outdoor details, but do not mean the scooter can be exposed to standing water or driven as though other users have seen it. Choose a pace based on visibility and surface conditions.
Pneumatic comfort with maintenance responsibilities
All four tires are 13-inch pneumatic units, working with full suspension to soften ordinary surface irregularities. Their pressure and condition need regular attention, unlike solid travel-scooter tires. Underinflation can affect handling and range, and punctures remain possible. Motor clearance is 3.5 inches, so abrupt curb edges and deep ruts still deserve avoidance even on a roomy outdoor platform.
A hard-top canopy and additional carrying accessories are optional. Do not assume that equipment shown in outdoor photographs is included with every PX4 or that a canopy changes the scooter's operating limits. Maintained routes, careful low-speed turns and an appropriate charging routine make better use of the design than loose-ground shortcuts. The PX4 is particularly persuasive when seating room and suspended outdoor comfort justify its considerable transport weight, with the actual seating configuration chosen to suit the rider rather than the capacity rating alone.
