Karman MVP-502 Reclining Manual Wheelchair

The MVP-502 is a folding manual wheelchair with an aluminum frame and a reclining backrest. Its setup differs from a basic fixed-back chair: seat and back tension straps can be adjusted, the armrests are height-adjustable, and the backrest includes an adjustable pillow. Removable, swing-away elevating leg rests with calf supports provide another configuration choice. These features make fit and setup central to choosing the chair; they do not replace an individual seating assessment or a prescribed pressure-management plan.

Choose Seat Width and Depth First

Karman lists seat widths of 16, 18 or 20 inches and seat depths of 16 or 18 inches. The chair has a 250 lb weight capacity. Compare the selected width and depth with the user's seated measurements, clothing and positioning needs, and verify the exact combination in the order form. Tension-adjustable upholstery can be set to the user's posture, but it does not change the frame's seat dimensions or guarantee fit.

Recline and Leg Support

The backrest reclines, and the seat and back support can be adjusted through their tension straps. Height-adjustable armrests and an adjustable pillow allow additional setup. The elevating leg rests swing away and detach, with calf supports listed. Consider how the user will move between upright and reclined positions, whether a caregiver will assist, and how the leg rests affect transfers and doorway approach. Use the owner's manual for recline and adjustment procedures; do not assume that every accessory or support shown in photographs is included.

Standard and Transport-Wheel Versions

The standard MVP-502 listing specifies 22-inch rear wheels. Karman's separate MVP-502-TP is the 14-inch transport-wheel version. These are distinct configurations, not interchangeable wheel choices to assume for this order. Confirm the model code and wheel setup before purchase, especially if the chair is being selected for a particular pushing routine, transport environment or service need.

Folding and Vehicle Fit

The frame folds and the leg rests detach for storage and loading. Karman lists overall widths of 24, 26 or 28 inches and folded widths of 14, 15 or 16 inches, depending on seat width; overall length is listed at 47 inches. Match the folded width to the selected seat and measure the vehicle opening and cargo space, including room to handle the chair and detached components. The 36 lb listed chair weight excludes footrests, so the complete setup weighs more. Plan around the actual configuration rather than treating 36 lb as the total lifting load.
