The AL030 Power Tote is an exterior hitch-mounted lift designed specifically for folding manual wheelchairs. The wheelchair rolls onto the carrier platform; the lift then raises and lowers it under power. The empty lift folds manually for stowage, so powered lifting does not mean that every loading and folding step is motorized. Harmar rates the AL030 for manual wheelchairs up to 100 lb and lists compatibility with sedans, minivans, SUVs, trucks and vans.

Wheelchair Fit and Loading

Confirm the wheelchair folds as required and fits the platform with its armrests, footrests and other components in the intended transport configuration. Harmar describes a roll-on approach, which means the chair must be positioned and secured on the carrier before it is raised. The wheelchair is not occupied during loading or travel. Powered Lift, Manual Fold

The AL030 motor handles raising and lowering the loaded manual wheelchair. Once unloaded, the lift folds by hand for storage against the vehicle. Include the empty-platform folding step in the user's or caregiver's routine and consider whether the operator can reach and manage it safely. The carrier's swing-away option can provide access behind the vehicle in some installations, but it is a separate, vehicle-dependent selection rather than an automatic feature.
