The AL001 is a fully manual exterior carrier for a compatible mobility scooter, manual wheelchair or powerchair. Harmar lists a 500 lb device capacity and an oversized platform intended to carry standard mobility devices without modifications to the chair. Because the carrier has no powered lift, loading and stowing require physical handling; consider the user's device, the operator's strength and the loading procedure before choosing this model.

Device Fit and Loading

Measure the device in its transport configuration, including wheelbase, overall width and length, footrests, tiller or joystick and any accessories. Compare those measurements with the actual AL001 platform and confirm how the device will be positioned and secured. A device under the 500 lb rating is not automatically compatible if it cannot fit or be restrained correctly. Follow Harmar's instructions for loading, securing and unloading, and do not transport an occupied mobility device.

Vehicle and Hitch Compatibility

Harmar lists compatibility with sedans, minivans, SUVs and vans, but the exact vehicle and hitch still require confirmation. Include both the carrier and mobility device when checking the vehicle's rear carrying capacity, payload and hitch/tongue-weight limits. The added load and rear projection affect suspension, ground clearance, backing, parking and garage access. Verify the mounting position and clearance with a Harmar dealer before ordering.

Manual Operation and Storage

The AL001 does not require an electrical hookup or connection to the vehicle battery. Its manual operation avoids powered lift components, but the operator must perform the loading and stowing steps according to the instructions. When not in use, the carrier can be stored; check the owner's manual for the correct configuration and safe handling of its parts.

Confirm the mobility-device model, dimensions, weight, securement points, vehicle year/make/model and hitch ratings. Ask the dealer to verify platform fit, mounting arrangement and rear clearance for the selected setup. The 500 lb carrier rating is the device limit, not the amount every vehicle can carry at its hitch.
