The EV Rider Transport Plus S19 is a manually folding travel mobility scooter with a different power arrangement from the lithium-only Transport M. Its standard configuration uses sealed lead-acid batteries, while a lithium pack is an optional alternative. The useful question is not simply whether it folds, but how its seat, batteries, and remaining frame fit into your normal loading routine. Its compact shape suits storage; lifting still requires a realistic assessment of strength and reach.
Folding Without a Remote or Motor
The Plus folds through a hands-on sequence involving the release lever, seat back, and tiller. There is no remote-controlled folding action. It can fold with the seat and batteries attached, which avoids laying out several loose components every time it is stored. Once folded, the assembly can stand on its casters and be wheeled rather than carried for every movement across a level surface.
Wheeling it through a lobby is different from raising it over a car bumper. The removable battery pack and folding seat allow the loading task to be divided, but removing a component should not be confused with a weight-free frame. Plan where each part will go, use proper frame lifting points, and ask for help when the load or angle is awkward. Do not lift the scooter by detachable trim, the seat, or armrests.
Seat Space Versus a Small Footprint
The manufacturer specifies a 16-inch-wide seat with a 13-inch depth and a folding backrest. This gives the Plus a compact seated position rather than the larger cushion and back support of a full-size scooter. Compare those dimensions with a chair you already find comfortable, and check whether your thighs, feet, and knees remain supported. A 250-lb capacity alone cannot answer those fit questions.
A height-adjustable tiller helps tailor the reach to the controls. The current specification lists a 32-inch turning radius, useful for changing direction in smaller spaces, but the rider still needs clearance around furniture and door approaches. Tight steering is most helpful at low speed. It does not mean that every narrow hallway can be negotiated without reversing or that the scooter can turn within its own width.
Driving and Stopping With the Wig-Wag
The digital wig-wag throttle controls direction and movement from the tiller, while an adjustable speed setting helps limit how quickly the scooter responds. The published maximum is 4 mph; slower settings are more appropriate around shelves, pedestrians, and sharp corners. Returning the throttle to neutral activates electromagnetic braking. Familiarity with that response matters before using the scooter in a busy environment or near a ramp.
The freewheel setting permits an attendant to move the scooter without powered driving, but it also disengages the normal drive and braking arrangement. Use it only for controlled repositioning on level ground and return the lever to drive before use. Rear anti-tip wheels are standard equipment, not a substitute for careful cornering. The manual also warns against riding on the scooter while it is in a moving vehicle.
Standard SLA Batteries and Optional Lithium
The standard battery configuration is two 12V 12Ah sealed lead-acid batteries. An optional 25.2V 10.05Ah lithium pack is a different configuration, not an extra included battery. The choice affects transport weight and the charger required. Make the decision based on how often the pack must be handled, access to charging, and the equipment supplied with the selected configuration rather than assuming that all Transport models share the same power system.
Range varies with rider weight, battery condition, temperature, gradients, and the number of starts and stops. A short trip to a store may involve more power-consuming maneuvering than the same distance on an uninterrupted level route. Charge before outings and retain a return reserve. Follow the instructions for the fitted battery and charger; changing chemistry does not justify using the original charger unless it is approved for that pack.
Routes, Accessories, and the Useful Trade-Off
Solid rubber tires avoid punctures, while the modest wheel sizes and low chassis favor firm, reasonably smooth surfaces. The manufacturer's current table gives 2.4 inches of ground clearance and a maximum recommended climbing angle of 6 degrees. Neither number makes the Plus a curb-climbing or rough-trail scooter. Approach transitions slowly and avoid slippery, loose, or deeply uneven ground that can compromise traction and steering.
A compatible basket and armrest arrangements are accessories to consider separately, not equipment to assume from photographs of an accessorized scooter. Check that any addition remains compatible with folding and does not create an awkward protrusion during loading. Airline or cruise travel needs advance carrier approval for the exact batteries and scooter. The Plus is a practical choice for riders who accept manual setup and a compact seat in exchange for folded storage and removable components.
